French Open: “I tried everything”: Nick Kyrgios cancels Kracher against Bernard Tomic

Nick Kyrgios cancelled the French Open at short notice. His elbow is not yet fit again.

“It’s too risky for me to possibly play five sets on sand,” the Australian explained his retreat – especially since he hadn’t played a match in two months. The good thing, says Kyrgios: He is almost painless and is looking forward to returning to the tour in Stuttgart.

Kyrgios had played his last individual match in Houston at the beginning of April, in the double he had won the title in Lyon the week before. His outing in Roland Garros is all the sadder because he would have met compatriot Bernard Tomic in round one, who had fought his way through the qualification after his time-out – a duel that would have had the potential for an entertaining tennis match on several levels.

Kyrgios will now be replaced by another lucky loser – eighth at this year’s French Open.
