The first big favourite for the title at the French Open has been eliminated. Elina Svitolina had to admit defeat to the Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu in two sets in round three.
Again Elina Svitolina has to say goodbye at the French Open. Last year it was the quarter-final defeat against Simona Halep, this year is already over in the third round.
The Ukrainian, who was considered a big favourite for the title in Paris, never found her game against Mihaela Buzarnescu at any time and acted incorrectly.
The world ranking fourth was already 36 minutes behind with 3:6 and found no means against the brave Romanian. Svitolina, however, did not give up without a fight and bit herself into the game.
The 23-year-old equalled a break deficit in the middle of the second round and drew a little hope for a turnaround. Svitolina even managed the break to take the 5-4 lead, but in return won the re-break.
A further loss of serve to 5:6 finally sealed the 3:6 and 5:7 defeat. This is the first big name on the potential winners list in the Stade Roland Garros to say goodbye to the schedule.
