Australian Open winner Caroline Wozniacki has to go again on Monday: Her round of 16 against Daria Kasatkina was abandoned in the second set.
The match between the world rankings runner-up and Kasatkina was interrupted at 6:7 (5), 3:3 due to darkness. Both players had already discussed a break-off at the beginning of the set, and in the middle of the second round the head referee gave in. In a direct comparison, Kasatkina leads 2-1, she had won the last two matches without losing a set.
The opponent is sought by Sloane Stephens, who won 6:2, 6:0 against Anett Kontaveit at noon. In the other women’s matches of the day Madison Keys won against Mihaela Burzanescu (6:1, 6:4) and Yulia Putintseva against Barbora Strycova (6:4, 6:3).
Serena and Venus Williams are out of the women’s doubles: The two lost against Andreja Klepac/Maria Martinez Sanchez 4:6, 7:6 (7:4), 0:6.
Serena Williams will play Maria Sharapova in the round of 16 in the individual competition on Monday afternoon (from 2.30 pm in the live ticker).
