French Open: Day 11 – Angie against Halep and a walk-through for Wimbledon

Angelique Kerber is aiming for a semi-final place at the French Open in Roland Garros on Wednesday, Tuesday was also dominated by an Italian.

Thiem-Zverev-Watch: Alexander Zverev went home as quickly as possible after his final press conference. It can be assumed that the German number one is referring to his domicile in Monte Carlo, at least he will undergo a thorough examination of his thigh in the coming days.

Which rules out his joining his brother Misha in London: He went there looking for a lawn.

If Alexander Zverev wants to find a lawn, it will probably be in Halle/Westphalia. Zverev did not want to make any predictions, just as Novak Djokovic did not in his historically short round of journalists: whether he was playing on grass at all, he did not yet know. At least that should be out of the question with Zverev.

Dominic Thiem is allowed to spend the next few days on Parisian ashes. If it’s up to the Austrian, even for the next five days. “After reaching the semi-finals of the French Open en suite for the third time, Thiem has posted “Hattrick”. Nobody counted on Marco Cecchinato as their opponent, Thiem can feel a bit of a favourite despite the Italian’s success.

Match of the day: Angelique Kerber (GER/12) vs. Simona Halep (RUM/1), Court Suzanne Lenglen, 14:00 h. Kerber has made peace with the sand, Halep was never crossed with the red ash. The last encounter between the two has turned into an epic heat battle, for Paris different conditions are expected on Wednesday than in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. On the Lenglen, Kerber dominated Caroline Garcia in the round of 16, while Halep won an already lost match against Elina Svitolina last year.

Staff member of the previous day: Marco Cecchinato. Not only because, after Pablo Carreno Busta and David Goffin, he defeated Novak Djokovic, the next player with a much higher score. Especially since the press conference afterwards brought some pearls. If Cecchinato would have thought before the tiebreak of the fourth set, he can’t win because Novak is on the other side of the match? That’s how he had it before the match. What did he think of the fact that he was now probably under the law in Wimbledon? “Good for my opponent there.” And Dominic Thiem? He finally won his last match against his semi-final opponent. Someday, somewhere in the finals of a Future tournament.
