Semifinal day with the men in Roland Garros (from 1 p.m. in the LIVETICKER) While the final for the women has already been determined, the men are still fighting for the tickets for the big final on Sunday. Dominic Thiem, who will meet the tournament sensation Marco Cecchinato in the first semi-final, will start the match. Afterwards the duel between sand court king Rafa Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro rises.
For many, the dream final in Roland Garros is about to begin: Sand court king Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem are both in the semi-finals of this year’s French Open.
In the run-up to the Grand Slam, many only trusted the Austrian to be an equal opponent for Nadal on Sand.
In order to reach the much quoted dream final, however, the Austrian must first get rid of the tournament sensation and Djokovic winner Marco Cecchinato.
Nadal has to deal with Juan Martin del Potro in the second semi-final – certainly not a self-runner for Rafa either.
However, both Delpo and Nadal will go into the semi-finals with the same conditions. Both players fell victim to the changeable weather in Paris on Wednesday, had to interrupt their quarter-final matches and not play until the end of Thursday. For Nadal a blessing, he finally lost the first set against Diego Schwartzmann and only started rolling after the rain had stopped.
