ATP: Rafa Nadal cancels participation in Queen’s Club

Three days after his eleventh victory at the French Open, world number one Rafael Nadal has cancelled his participation in the grass court tournament at London’s Queen’s Club. The reason for this are the strains of the clay court season.

“I have spoken to my doctors and I have to listen to what my body tells me,” explained the 32-year-old Spaniard.

This is Nadal’s third consecutive absence from the preparation tournament for the All England Championships in Wimbledon. “I want to apologize to the organizers,” Nadal said.

The Mallorcan played 27 games on sand this year. Nadal celebrated his 17th triumph at a Grand Slam tournament in Paris on Sunday by beating Austrian Dominic Thiem in the final.
