WTA: Marion Bartoli: But no comback on the professional tour

Marion Bartoli has finally put an end to her comeback plans. The 2013 Wimbledon winner was in pain.

As a reason for her role backwards, the 33-year-old French woman cited problems with her shoulder, which had been damaged for a long time. “Unfortunately for me I have to stop my comeback plans,” Bartoli twittered on Wednesday afternoon and added a picture with a rose in black and white. A sign of their personal grief.

She continued: “The necessary increase in training has caused pain in my right shoulder. This is not compatible with a return to the highest level. I would like to thank everyone who accompanied me on this wonderful adventure,” said the former number seven in the world. Bartoli, who is interested in fashion, indicated that she wanted to work as a coach on the professional tour in the future.

Only six weeks after her final triumph over Sabine Lisicki on the holy turf, Bartoli surprisingly announced her resignation in summer 2013. In December 2017, she, who claims to have an IQ of 175, announced her comeback. Out of the blue.

“It will be a huge challenge,” said Bartoli at the time – and: “I still have a lot of training ahead of me.” In March, the right-handed woman played in a tiebreak event at Madison Square Garden in New York with her forehand on both hands, but she didn’t seem well trained there.

In the past two weeks she had interviewed the professionals at the French Open in Paris after last year’s matches on the Centre Court. However, it was clearly visible that Bartoli was not yet back in physical competition form.

A doctor’s daughter has won eight tournaments on the WTA Tour and reached her career high in 2012 with seventh place in the world rankings. She had already advanced to the final in Wimbledon in 2007, but lost to Venus Williams in two sets.

This special coup 2013 on Church Road at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London SW19 was also the personal satisfaction of Marion B. from Le Puy-en-Velay, whose unusual style of play and training methods were smiled at by many.

But three years later, Bartoli suddenly suffered from a mysterious virus. She lost weight rapidly – and even feared “for her life,” as she later revealed. In November of the same year, after her recovery – as a sign of a new start – she ran the New York Marathon

In an interview in January 2018, Bartoli spoke for the first time about her motives for her comeback. She had sharply criticized her ex-boyfriend and blamed him for her large weight fluctuations. “I let someone destroy me,” Bartoli told L’Equipe. “I never thought that was possible.”
