ATP: Media: Becker invokes diplomatic immunity in insolvency proceedings

Germany’s tennis idol Boris Becker is apparently claiming immunity in the current insolvency proceedings in Great Britain. This was reported by the British media on Friday.

Accordingly, the 50-year-old refers to his ambassador status as the Central African Republic’s special attaché for sport and cultural affairs in the European Union.

According to a report by the Press Association, Becker’s lawyers have filed an application with a London court. In the summer of 2017, Becker was declared insolvent by the British judiciary. The “Head of Tennis” of the German Tennis Federation (DTB) always enters bankruptcy.

“The decision to open insolvency proceedings against me was both unjustified and unlawful”, Becker is quoted by the Press Association: “I have now asserted diplomatic immunity, because I am indeed obliged to do so in order to bring this farce to an end so that I can begin to rebuild my life”.
