WTA: Witthöft, Lottner, Maria – Triple triumph for the German ladies on Mallorca

Angelique Kerber will join the WTA tournament in Mallorca on Tuesday. For three other German ladies, however, Monday was already quite excellent.

Super Monday for Germany’s women’s tennis: Three players have left the grass court as winners of the WTA tournament “Mallorca Open 2018”. To the delight of tournament ambassador Barbara Rittner!

Tatjana Maria beat Anett Kontaveit (Estonia) 3:6, 6:4, 6:3 in the first main round. Carina Witthöft won in three sets 6:1, 6:7 (2/7), 6:3 against the Italian Francesca Schiavone, who received a wildcard from tournament organiser Edwin Weindorfer, and Antonia Lottner, who won the German duel against Andrea Petkovic on Sunday, made it into the main field thanks to an equally hard fought three-set victory over Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure. Lottner turned the sixth match point into a 3:6, 6:3, 6:4 victory!

With Angelique Kerber, who will play her first-round game against the American Alison Riske on Tuesday, Carina Witthöft, Tatjana Maria and Antonia Lottner, four German players will play in the main field of the “Mallorca Open 2018”.
