Generali Open: Kitzbühel with one current and four former top 10 players

The field of the Generali Open Kitzbühel 2018 is fixed. Dominic Thiem gets the most attractive competition at the home event with four former top 10 players and three Kitzbühel winners. At the top, the field of competitors in Kitzbühel guarantees top games already at the beginning of the week.

At the top of the list is the Generali Open Kitzbühel more top-class than ever before: Together the stars of this year’s traditional Kitzbühel tournament have not less than 80 ATP titles on their books. In addition to the top seeded Thiem, four former top ten players – Gasquet (FRA), Verdasco (ESP), Monfils (FRA) and Simon (FRA) – will also be competing in Kitzbühel. In addition, three Kitzbühel winners – defending champion Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER), Robin Haase (NED) and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP). In addition to the established sand court specialists, the country’s largest open-air tournament will once again attract young talents, above all Germany’s shooting star Maximilian Marterer.

With a top starting field at the traditional tournament in Kitzbühel from 28 July to 4 August, world-class tennis is guaranteed – already at the beginning of the tournament week, top matches with Gael Monfils and Gilles Simon will be on the agenda: “There have not been so many top players at the top in Kitzbühel for a long time. That’s why we can promise our fans that top matches will already be played on Monday and Tuesday,” explains Tournament Director Antonitsch. If you don’t want to miss out on a grandstand seat at the beginning of the tournament week, it’s best to book your tickets in advance at www.generaliopen.com Tickets for Monday, among other things, start at 19 euros.

Despite the two simultaneous tournaments in Washington and Los Cabos, this year’s cut off of the Generali Open Kitzbühel is number 81 in the world. Unfortunately, other Austrians could not make it into the first cut on their own. Gerald Melzer is the most promising red-white-red candidate for entry into the main field and ranks 12th on the waiting list. From today’s point of view, the Austrians are therefore dependent on a wildcard from the organisers: “As always, we can only issue two free tickets. This will be another very difficult task this year. Especially because some Austrians have recently drawn particular attention to sand. A lot will happen in the next few weeks and we will certainly await this development and take our time for this decision,” says Antonitsch.
