WTA: Angelique Kerber already eliminated on Mallorca

Angelique Kerber has dropped out of the WTA tournament in Santa Ponsa, Mallorca. The German number one lost 7:5, 2:6 and 1:6 against the US-American Alison Riske.

Germany’s number one Angelique Kerber (Kiel) has started the grass court season with a surprising defeat. The former world number one lost her first-round game at the WTA tournament in Mallorca to US qualifier Alison Riske 7-5, 2-6, 1-6.

In the sequel, Kerber could not win a single game. After a total of 1:58 hours Kerber had to congratulate her opponent on her victory.

Antonia Lottner (Düsseldorf), on the other hand, has reached the round of 16 in Mallorca. The 21-year-old qualifier had already defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich from Belarus on Tuesday and will now meet Anastasija Sevastova from Latvia, who is seeded third. Already on Wednesday afternoon Carina Witthöft (Hamburg) and Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) will fight in a direct duel for their place in the last eight.
