WTA: Görges in Birmingham quarter-finals

Julia Görges (Bad Oldesloe) has reached the quarter-finals of the WTA tournament in Birmingham. The 29-year-old beat Australian Ashleigh Barty 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 after 1:36 hours of play.

Next opponent for the world rankings-13th is the two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic.

The fifth seeded Görges is the only German player in the field at the high-calibre tournament in England. The grass court tournament serves as an important preparation for the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon.
