Boris Becker has spoken out in detail in the affair over his insolvency proceedings in Great Britain and an allegedly forged diplomatic passport. “I am trapped here in the mills of the law. I paid more than I asked for and nobody cares,” Becker told the Bild am Sonntag.
The 50-year-old made serious accusations in the interview. “The fact is that the court has set 3.9 million euros, but the insolvency administrator wants to collect more money and thus prolong the proceedings,” Becker said.
There is “an ominous 25 percent interest rate,” but “this demand is in no way legitimate. This isn’t a request concert.”
“I also found out with my lawyers that the law firm representing the insolvency administrator is itself a partner in the English private bank that is asking me for the money. That smells very much like a conflict of interest to me,” said Becker.
His English lawyers had “already prepared a counterclaim against the bank. This could shake up English insolvency law”.
Becker had claimed political immunity in the Central African Republic’s diplomatic passport case, citing an alleged ambassador status. Later, the office manager of the country’s foreign minister claimed that the document was a forgery.
“At first, one has nothing to do with the other. And I would in no way use this status for a more positive outcome of the trial,” Becker said: “The passport was handed over to me by the ambassador among witnesses in mid-April. “I can only assume that everything is legal if my diplomatic passport, which was issued to me by the embassy, is with the American consulate.”
Becker still believes in a positive outcome of his trial. “I always warn people who don’t know me to judge me. I know exactly what is happening and I just want people to listen to me and see if it’s true,” said the three-time Wimbledon winner.
The planned auction of his possessions is “only about hurting me personally, because I am naturally emotionally attached to the trophies. If you add up the pure sales value of these items such as clubs and cups, it’s a snap,” Becker said: “Next week my lawyers in England will apply for a restraining order to stop the auction.
