Tournament director Ralf Weber knows: “For many fans, visiting the tournament has become a must in the tennis year”.
Also the 26th edition is again a magnet for spectators: Even before the final weekend it is certain that more than 110,000 spectators will have attended Germany’s largest tennis tournament. “For the final phase we were practically sold out long before the tournament started,” says tournament director Ralf Weber. “More and more fans are getting their tickets earlier and earlier.”
The run for tickets for the 27th edition of the tournament has already begun, from 15 to 23 June 2019, with official advance ticket sales starting last Saturday, 16 June. Here, too, demand is already at a record level – on the first few days around 40 percent more day tickets and season tickets were sold than in the same period last year. International demand has also increased significantly.
Since its premiere in 1993, more than 2.6 million people have attended the tournament. The profile of the fans has changed markedly from the beginnings to the present, it has become more international, more global. “The spectators really do come to Halle from all continents.
For many fans, attending the Gerry Weber Open has become a must in the tennis year,” says tournament director Ralf Weber. Many fans even come from England to experience lawn tennis “made” in Halle/Westphalia. “The fans are well informed and know how closely we work with Wimbledon. And that we set the same high standards for our product as the All England Lawn Tennis Club,” Weber explains.
To date, over 5,000 day tickets, around 200 season tickets and 175 weekend subscriptions have been sold to international fans. But often foreign visitors still decide on spontaneous trips – depending on the outcome of the ATP matches.
Tickets were sold to Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
