ATP: Murray celebrates first victory since injury break

Andy Murray celebrated his first success after his injury break on Monday evening. The former world number one beat Stan Warinka of Switzerland 6:1, 6:3.

Murray against Wawrinka – on a Monday? The injury breaks of both Grand Slam champions made it possible. At the ATP event in Eastbourne, Wawrinka received a wildcard, while Murray was unseeded in the main draw.

It was the duel between 156 Murray and 225 Wawrinka, with the better end for the higher-placed player. Murray started like the fire brigade, took off his opponent twice after the 1:1 serve and won the next five games.

In set two, it was a break to 3-2 that brought him to the front. With a true marathon game on a 4:3 lead, when he fought off a total of four Wawrinkas break points, he finally pulled his teeth and laid the foundation for a two-set victory.

In the second round of Eastbourne, Murray will meet his compatriot Kyle Edmund, who started the tournament with a walk-through as number two.
