Wimbledon: Jürgen Melzer enters third qualifying round – Barbara Haas also wins

Jürgen Melzer is only one win away from entering the Wimbledon main field. Barbara Haas also won the qualification.

The 37-year-old Melzer, two-time Wimbledon round of 16 finalist, defeated Japan’s Go Soeda, who was only four years younger, 6-3 and 6-2, thus saving the Viennese important strength for the final qualifying round after his hard-fought three-set victory over Slovakia’s Jozef Kovalik the previous day.

Former champion Melzer, who is now only in 705th place in the world rankings, has a ticket for the double competition: Together with Canadian Daniel Nestor, he received a wildcard.

After a marathon match Barbara Haas can also continue to dream of jumping into the main field of the most important grass court event. The 22-year-old, who was 215th in the WTA ranking, prevailed in 2:13 hours 3:6, 6:4, 7:5.
