ATP: Quarter-final entry in Eastbourne: Mischa Zverev manages surprise

Mischa Zverev has reached his first quarterfinal of the season. The left-hander clearly won the Wimbledon dress rehearsal in Eastbourne 6:3, 6:3 against number seven-listed Steve Johnson (USA).

The 30-year-old Mischa Zverev needed almost 1:20 hours on court 2 for the success. Johnson (28) had reached the round of 16 in Wimbledon in 2016. In the world rankings, the man from California is exactly 25 ranks ahead of Zverev in 42nd place.

But the left-hander showed his qualities on grass. The older Zverev brother Johnson had already defeated at the Geneva 2017 clay court tournament. The Hamburg-born player was able to fend off both break points and took advantage of three of his twelve break chances.

In the round of the last eight, Mischa Zverev will meet the third seeded Canadian Denis Shapovalov on Thursday. In the duel with Jared Donaldson, he won 6:4, 4:6, 6:2 after 2:11 hours.
