ATP: Season premiere: Mischa Zverev in semi-final in Eastbourne

Mischa Zverev has reached a semi-final on the ATP tour in Eastbourne for the first time this year. At the last preparation tournament before the start of the Grand Slam classic in Wimbledon (2 to 15 July), the 30-year-old from Hamburg won 6:3 and 6:3 against the Canadian Denis Shapovalov, who was seeded third, in the round of the last eight.

Zverev will now face the winner of the match between Kyle Edmund of Britain (No. 2) and Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan.

Edmund had defeated his compatriot Andy Murray in the second round. Zverev wiedrum had eliminated another seed before Shapovalov, who won the 2016 Wimbledon junior tournament, Steve Johnson.

At the parallel WTA tournament Angelique Kerber will play her quarter-final against the Russian Daria Kasatkina at the same place in the evening.

Against Shapovalov, Zverev relied on his strong serve-and-volley game and won five games in a row in the second set after trailing 1:3.
