WTA: Eastbourne-Off! Angelique Kerber forgives match point against Caroline Wozniacki

Angelique Kerber missed the final at the WTA tournament in Eastbourne. Shortly before the start in Wimbledon, the German played Caroline Wozniacki in great form, but had to admit defeat in three sets.

At the start of the game, the reigning Australian Open winner looked fresher and quickly put Kerber under pressure.

However, the woman from Kiel did not let herself be deterred and acted safely and consistently with her own service. Kerber also took advantage of their chances in a setback and took the lead for the first time with a break at 2:2.

The ex-number-one played with a lot of speed and sprinkled clever stops into her game over and over again. Wozniacki could not oppose her opponent’s power game and had to accept a further loss of serve to 2:5.

Even a fierce battle of words between the Dane and her father during the coaching break should not change the score and Kerber secured set one with 6:2.

Papa Wozniacki’s clear words seemed to have had an effect and so the 27-year-old came out of the short break fresher and promptly grabbed Kerber’s serve.

Kerber didn’t pin and fought at the baseline for every ball. Wozniacki had to beat Einstand several times after the 2-0 lead, but won 3-0.

As in the first run, the German increased the pressure on her opponent again and did not let up. At 2-4 from Kerber’s point of view, Wozniacki was shaking on his own serve and Angie took her chance to re-break.

The second round was decided in the tiebreak, in which Wozniacki increased once more and equalized in the sets with 7:6 (3). Previously, the Dane had fended off a match point with a fabulous winner.

The decision was to be made suboptimally for Kerber, who had to take a break at 2:2. The German did not recover from this gap and Wozniacki booked her 53rd final on the WTA Tour with a 3:6, 7:6 (3) and 6:3.

The 27-year-old Dane will face the furious Aryna Sabalenka in the final, who beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 1-6 and 6-3.
