The tennis mecca in Wimbledon opens its doors again. The All England Championships are on the agenda and Roger Federer is back in his living room. Here you can find all records, statistics and information about FedEx’s title wins on Church Road.
Roger Federer and the lawn – a very special connection. The green underground is clearly Switzerland’s favourite surface. 87.3 percent of all players on grass won FedEx. For comparison: on sand, it “only” has a victory rate of 75.9 percent. Of his 98 career titles on the tour, he won 18 on grass.
In his living room in Wimbledon, he even has an even more successful record. Federer won nearly 90 percent of his matches at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. The 36-year-old played a total of 102 matches in his 19 participations in Wimbledon, of which he won 91.
In his career in Wimbledon, Federer has played only 61 of 346 sets. He served 1292 aces and has an impressive tie-break record. 48 of 65 Tie Breaks were won by FedEx on Church Road.
He only retired in the first round in 1999, 2000 and 2002. In 2013, his second-round exit as defending champion against number 116 seeded Sergei Stachowski was a huge surprise. In his 19 participations he was 15 times among the last eight in the tournament. He also reached the final eleven times.

Roger Federer first attracted attention at the 2001 All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. In the round of 16, the Swiss finished Pete Sampras’ 31-game winning streak in Wimbledon. In the quarter-finals, however, the match against local hero Tim Henman ended.
Two years later, the time had come. After being accused of mental weakness at Grand Slam tournaments, Federer lied to his critics and won his first title in Wimbledon and thus also his first Grand Slam title. In the final FedEx defeated the Australian Mark Philippoussis in three sets.
A year later Federer returned to Church Road as the world’s number one and defended his title against Andy Roddick. The American was also his opponent in the 2005 final, which he won again.
He defended the title four times in a row. However, Rafael Nadal broke the record of six consecutive victories by William Renshaw in 2008, after failing Federer in the previous two years and winning an epic final in the fifth set 9-7. The tie break in the fourth set is still considered the most spectacular of all time.
Federer was already confronted with match balls and fended them off in an inimitable manner. The Swiss then saved himself in the fifth set, but finally had to admit defeat in his living room.
Andy Roddick had to believe in a similarly exciting final a year later. The US-American failed again in a five-sentence thriller due to Federer.
In 2012 the Swiss local hero defeated Andy Murray in the final, whereas he failed in 2014 and 2015 due to Novak Djokovic. In 2017 he finally crowned himself king of Wimbledon. With his eighth title win in London, Federer became the sole record winner on Church Road. He dominated the competition and did not give a single set during the entire tournament.
Roger Federer is the only record holder in Wimbledon with eight title wins. By winning in 2017, he overtook William Renshaw and Pete Sampras, who each won the Challenge Cup seven times.
Federer also holds the record for the longest Wimbledon final of all time. The epic final between the Swiss and Nadal in 2008 lasted 4:48 hours, with Federer finally beating the Spaniard 7:9 in the fifth set.
The final one year later also set a new record. In the match against Andy Roddick it took 77 games to determine the winner. Never before has a Wimbledon final seen more games. In the end, FedEx had the better end in the fifth set with 16:14.
Together with Björn Borg he shares the longest series of title wins in London. From 2003 to 2007 he prevailed five times in a row. Borg did the same from 1976 to 1980.
Although Roger Federer is currently number two in the tennis world rankings, he will be placed first in the seedings for the 2018 Wimbledon tournament. The reason for this is that the British Grand Slam tournament takes into account the turf results of recent years.
The first hurdle is Dusan Lajovic. The reigning champion would probably have to deal with Lukas Lacko if he made progress. It could be difficult from the round of 16 if there is a duel with the Croatian youngster and hall winner Borna Coric.
However, Kevin Anderson and Sam Querrey are just two other top 15 players in the top quarter of the tableau. In the semi-final, Federer could face off against one of the service giants Milos Raonic, John Isner or Marin Cilic. Grigor Dimitrov would also be a possible opponent in the semi-finals. A duel with Rafael Nadal can only take place in a possible final.
