Wimbledon: Philipp Kohlschreiber in round two for the first time since 2014

Tennis veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber (34) has reached the second round of the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon for the first time in four years. The number 25 seeded Augsburger effortlessly defeated the Russian Egeny Donskoi 6-2, 6-4, 7-5 in his opening match on Monday.

Next opponent for the German number two is Gilles Muller (Luxembourg), last year’s surprise quarter-finalist, or Michael Mmoh (USA). Born in Augsburg, he started with a break and never let Donskoi back into the match.

Kohlschreiber is the first German tennis player in round two of the turf classic. Most recently, he failed at his opening hurdle three times in a row at the third major tournament of the year. Besides Kohlschreiber, Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein) and qualifier Yannick Maden (Stuttgart) will also be on duty on Monday. Top player Alexander Zverev (Hamburg/No. 4) intervenes like his brother Mischa only on Tuesday.
