Wimbledon: Struff wins marathon match against Mayer

Jan-Lennard Struff has reached the second round again in Wimbledon with a gripping five-set win after four consecutive opener failures. The 28-year-old won in a marathon match against the Argentinian Leonardo Mayer (No. 32 on the seed list) after 3:34 hours 3:6, 6:7 (5:7), 7:6 (7:5), 7:6 (7:5), 6:1.

Struff is the second German in the second round, after Philipp Kohlschreiber had already advanced. Only in his first appearance in 2013 had Struff won a game of the turf classic in South London.

The game against Mayer, in which he defeated 17 aces and six double errors, was the first that the 28-year-old could still win in his career after trailing 0:2 sets.

In the evening, qualifier Yannick Maden (Stuttgart) is still on duty in Wimbledon. Top player Alexander Zverev (Hamburg/No. 4) intervenes like his brother Mischa only on Tuesday.
