Wimbledon: Federer walks in round three

Roger Federer reached the third round of Wimbledon in overdrive on Wednesday. Slovakian Lukas Lacko did not become a stumbling block, the 20-time Grand Slam champion won 6:4, 6:4, 6:2.

“I played quite well and felt very comfortable,” Federer said after the match. “I was less nervous and happy with the way I hit the ball.

Federer convinced above all with his serve. In the second set, he did not even give a single point for his own service. He made just eleven unforced mistakes throughout the match, compared with 48 winners.

Federer does not want to let up after the sovereign victory: “But I have to adjust my game in the next rounds, because other opponents are waiting there. Nevertheless, the Swiss is pleased to have quickly established himself. “It’s always good not to use too much energy in the first few rounds.”

After winning the only two duels of 2011 at the Australian Open and 2014 at the French Open against Lacko, Federer has now won 26 sets in a row at his favourite Grand Slam in the south of London. He only managed a longer series between 2005 and 2006. At that time he had won 34 rounds in a row.

In round three, the Swiss player will now face Ivo Karlovic or Jan-Lennard Struff.
