Wimbledon: Petkovic eliminated in round two

Andrea Petkovic retired from the Grand Slam classic in Wimbledon due to health problems in the second round. On Wednesday, the 30-year-old lost to Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium 4:6, 3:6.

Petkovic obviously had to fight with severe nausea, the Darmstadt native applied for a longer medical time-out in the second sentence.

Wickmayer, who had already eliminated Mona Barthel (Neumünster) in round one, left Petkovic no chance in the end. The 95th World Rankings, which had led 4-2 in the first set, missed the setting of their best result at the Major Lawn in London. The third round was last reached in 2015.

On Wednesday Julia Görges (Bad Oldesloe/No. 13) and Mallorca winner Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) are still in action from a German perspective, Angelique Kerber will play her second round game on Thursday. The three other German starters in the grass Mecca had already failed at their opening hurdle.
