Wimbledon: Stan Wawrinka after second-round bankruptcy: “Find match hardness again

Stan Wawrinka retired after his opening coup against Grigor Dimitrov in the second round of Wimbledon. The comeback of the Swiss after two knee operations is difficult.

Wawrinka had another chance to turn and shoot the game during the forced overtime. But he also remained true to himself in the extra shift of his duel against the Italian Thomas Fabbiano.

Two more set points missed in the tie-break of the third round could no longer be corrected. Within a very short time, the man from Western Switzerland, who was too careless with his possibilities, finally lost the match, which was abandoned on Wednesday evening due to rain, 6:7 (7:9), 3:6 and 6:7 (6:8).

“I wasn’t aggressive enough overall,” Wawrinka said afterwards, “my fitness is okay, I also trained well at last. Now I just have to find the self-confidence, the match hardness again.” Wawrinka missed a total of eight set points against Fabbiano in the first and third acts.

In his opening game, the 33-year-old surprised with a coup against ATP World Champion Grigor Dimitrov. Wawrinka is still on a complicated comeback mission after two knee operations in the last twelve months.
