Wimbledon: Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic fail surprisingly at the start

Austrian Oliver Marach and his Croatian partner Mate Pavic have already failed in the first double round of Wimbledon. The first top seeded double in a Grand Slam tournament lost despite a 2-0 set lead after the game was postponed by one day due to darkness on Donnerstabend.

After 3:20 hours the 6:4, 7:6 (7:3), 4:6, 5:7, 2:6 defeat against Federico Delbonis/Miguel Angel Reyes/Varela (Argentina/Mexico) was sealed. There was great disillusionment on Court 18, because Marach and Pavic had actually come to London to win one more match at Church Road this year than in 2017.

The Styrian-Croatian combo started into the most important grass court tournament as number 16 twelve months ago. The first Grand Slam title to date was in the air for Marach and Pavic until 11:13 in the fifth set. Meanwhile this burden has fallen – with the success at the Australian Open at the beginning of the year. The disappointment was all the greater now.
