Defending champion Roger Federer has reached the quarter-finals in Wimbledon. The top seeded eight-time champion won against the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (No. 22) in only 1:45 hours 6:0, 7:5, 6:4.
All in all, the Swiss has only been on the pitch for 6:08 hours at this year’s competition of the turf classic. His next opponents are Kevin Anderson (South Africa/No. 8) and Gael Monfils (France).
In the first three rounds the Swiss had already defeated the Serbs Dusan Lajovic, Lukas Lacko (Slovakia) and Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein) in three sets each. Federer has now won 32 sets in a row at his favourite Grand Slam in the south of London thanks to his smooth success against left-hander Mannarino. He only managed a longer series between 2005 and 2006 when he won 34 rounds in a row.
As before, the bidder from Basel has not yet had to give up a single premium. Mannarino was at least close, but couldn’t take his chances. Especially since the Frenchman had problems with the adductors from the end of the second set.
