Mike Bryan has made it to the Wimbledon finals – without brother Bob – and will be the number 1 in the world again on Monday!
For years people have only talked about the Bryan Brothers – currently Mike is making headlines in the Singular: The triple Wimbledon champ (2006, 2011, 2013 – always at Bob’s side) is once again in the final of the world’s most famous tournament, but this time at Jack Sock’s side. The two Americans beat the British-Croatian duo Dominic Inglot/Franko Skugor 6-3, 6-1, 6-7 (11), 6-7 (4), 6-4 on Thursday and will now play against Raven Klaasen (South Africa) and Michael Venus (Australia) for their first joint major title.
For Mike Bryan it’s also about the 119th double title ever (he celebrated 116 at Twin-Brother Bob’s side) and the 17 major victory. But he already has one thing for sure: Mike Bryan will be the oldest (double) number 1 in history on Monday and will start his 455th week at the top of the rankings.
After a mediocre 2017, Bob and Mike Bryan had a strong start in 2018 – with the Australian Open semi-final and four Masters-1000s finals, where they won two titles. Since then, Bob Bryan has been doomed to watch because of a hip injury. He’s still happy about his brother’s number one.
And partner Jack Sock also congratulated and said that he was “only” the replacement: “#ImJustFillingIn” was the hashtag on the Instagram congratulations. As soon as Bob is fit again, the success twins should work together again!
