Wimbledon: Siniakova and Krejcikova win next Grand Slam title

First the French Open, now Wimbledon: Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova are currently the strongest doubles in women’s tennis.

Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova write tennis history quietly and secretly: A few weeks after their triumph at the French Open, the two Czech women also won the title in Wimbledon. Krejcikova and Siniakova beat compatriot Kveta Peschke and Nicole Melichar from the USA in three sets 6:4, 4:6 and 6:0 in the final match transferred to Court 1.

Melichar has a second chance to win a trophy on Sunday: Then she will compete with Alexander Peya in the final of the Mixed Double. Opponents there will be Victoria Azarenka and Jamie Murray.

Siniakova, ranked 42nd in the WTA Individual World Ranking, had defeated Coco Vandeweghe in the first round of the singles competition, but failed two matches later due to Camila Giorgi. Together with Krejcikova, Siniakova has now achieved something historic: they were the first couple ever to win the title in the junior women’s doubles and the women’s doubles.
