Angelique Kerber has made a great leap into the world tennis rankings with her Wimbledon victory. The woman from Kiel improved from tenth to fourth place in the ranking published on Monday.
For the 30-year-old Kerber, who last led the ranking in March 2017, it is the best ranking since August 14, 2017.
The defeated finalist Serena Williams, who had only returned to the tour in March after a 13-month baby break, made an enormous leap. The American climbed from 181st to 28th place. Romania’s Simona Halep, who had already failed in the third round at Wimbledon, remains number one.
Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic improved by eleven places to tenth place in the men’s ranking and will be back in the top 10 for the first time since October 30, 2017. Finalist Kevin Anderson (32) from South Africa reached the best position of his career in fifth place. Rafael Nadal from Spain continues to lead the ranking, Alexander Zverev from Hamburg remains third.
