The Atlanta Falcons will probably not comply with Julio Jones’ request for a new contract media reports for the time being. The Wide Receiver would like to have a more lucrative employment contract, although he is still tied to the team for several years.
This is reported by the online portal The Athletic. According to this, the team “has no plans to comply with Jones’ request for a salary increase before the start of the season”. This is because the Falcons “after an analysis in the offseason found that the budget for the desired salary restructuring is currently not available”.
Jones enters the third year of his five-year contract for $71.3 million signed before the 2015 season. The deal is for $47 million in guarantees.
The 29-year-old is said to be disturbed above all by the annual cap hit. Here Jones is not paid like a top receiver. The video out comes in at $12.9 million, while league leader Mike Evans pockets $18.3 million from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Jones didn’t participate in his team’s optional off-season workout program any more than he did in the mandatory minicamp. On July 26th the veterans will enter the training camp. The Falcons are hoping Jones will be back here.
