WTA: Serena’s coach believes in Camila Giorgi

Camila Giorgi has properly demanded Serena Williams in Wimbledon. Patrick Mouratoglou, the coach of the 23-time Grand Slam winner, was quite impressed by the Italian.

Patrick Mouratoglou doesn’t fool anyone when evaluating talents, especially not on the WTA tour. This, of course, has to do with the fact that the Frenchman has been working alongside Serena Williams for years, the best player of ours, probably of all time, who has been watching her every day.

The next generation is no stranger to Mouratoglou either, in Roland Garros he was happy on court number 1 with the winner of the juniors, Cori Gauff. The American is only 14 years old, but physically so far that she could already keep up on the WTA tour.

Camila Giorgi is somewhere between Serena and Cori, but in terms of experience and performance she is 23 times closer to the major winner. In Wimbledon Williams and Giorgi met in the quarter-finals, but the Italian was faced with problems but finally left the Centre Court as the loser.

Which is not due to Camila Giorgi’s lack of potential. “I think she can play tennis at a very high level,” said Mouratoglou in an interview with the Italian tennis portal Ubitennis. “But the most important thing is to keep this level for two or three sets. “If she’s like Wimbledon, she can play incredible tennis.”

Giorgi, however, lacks consistency at every turn, even on serve: the Italian made 38 double mistakes in her first four matches in Wimbledon. “I think she has a very aggressive style,” Mouratoglou continues. “By taking the ball early and playing aggressively from the first shot. And by connecting to the net as often as possible.”

But that also brings with it problems. “If Camila manages to reduce her mistakes, she’ll go to a higher level.”
