ATP: Forbes list: Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal among the 100 richest celebrities in the world

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are among the best tennis players of all time – if not the two best at all. This is also reflected in the financial merits of the two superstars, as the financial magazine Forbes reports.

Every year the 100 best paid celebrities in the world are listed in Forbes magazine. This year’s evaluation will take place between 31 May 2017 and 31 May 2018.

The list is headed by professional boxer Floyd Mayweather, who last year bagged a meagre 285 million US dollars. This includes advertising contracts, prize money and other income. Football stars Lionel Messi (eighth, $111 million) and Cristiano Ronaldo (tenth, $108 million) are also big in business.

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal also join the who-is-who from Hollywood. With revenues of 77.2 million US dollars, Federer ranks 28th in the ranking. The sum includes prize money won (12.2 million US dollars) and advertising contracts such as with Barilla (7.5 million US dollars per year).

The Swiss is the seventh-best paid athlete in the world and leads the advertising revenue list with 65 million US dollars.

The new contract with the sporting goods manufacturer Uniqlo is not yet included. Federer is to receive $30 million per year from the Japanese company.

“Rogers” permanent rival Rafael Nadal ranks 72nd with 41.4 million US dollars. The 17-time Grand Slam winner received 14.4 million US dollars in prize money and receives 27 million US dollars in advertising revenue each year.

Rumour has it that Nadal, like Federer, is thinking of turning his back on his long-time supplier Nike. Here, too, higher earnings are likely from a change of sponsors.
