ATP: Eclat between Federer coach and Yann Marti in Gstaad

The qualification for the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Gstaad was a scandal. Right in the middle of it: Yann Marti and the Swiss Davis Cup chief Severin Lüthi.

Contemplative Gstaad: Already in the run-up to the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in the Swiss holiday resort, Davis Cup boss Severin Lüthi and Yann Marti had a scandal. This was reported by the Aargauer Zeitung.

Marti had just confidently won his opening match against Adrian Bodmer in qualifying, but then immediately confronted Lüthi by pointing out to Roger Federer’s coach: “You can stick him up your ass”.

Not the fine Swiss way. And to Martis bad luck, there was also an ATP referee in the audience who documented the incident. Marti was expelled from the tournament and Facundo Bagnis, the next opponent in the qualification, benefited from the disqualification.

Yann Marti and Severin Lüthi have been in the thick air since 2015. At that time, the team boss did not nominate Martis for an individual in his encounter with Belgium, although the latter was the best placed Swiss in the team in the absence of Federer and Stan Wawrinka. Marti had left without a greeting.
