ATP: Marian Vajda has the reins in Team Djokovic again firmly in his hands

Marian Vajda is again the head of Novak Djokovic’s team. Also because it no longer allows external influences.

The days of Novak Djokovic getting spiritual support from Pepe Imaz are over for now. This was confirmed by Marian Vajda, again in the service of the newly crowned Wimbledon winner, in a detailed interview with the Slovakian portal sport.sk.

“Yes, I wanted Novak to stop working with Imaz,” Vajda explained. “But it wasn’t the most important condition for me. First I wanted to talk to Novak personally. Then develop a plan and rules for the coming months. We all went to Barcelona together, sat together and talked. “I told Novak I didn’t like people outside our team influencing him like they did before.”

Even with plastic comparisons, the comeback coach of the former world number one did not hold back. “When you see your opponent, you have to focus on where you’re hitting the ball. And don’t think of Buddha.”

On the other hand, Marian Vajda had only good things to say about his successors and predecessors in sport, Radek Stepanek and Andre Agassi.

“I talked to Radek a few times and realized that he really wanted to understand Novak,” says Vajda. “He and Andre really tried and perhaps had the right approaches, but unfortunately at the wrong time. Novak wanted this collaboration to be a real success, but it didn’t work out well for him or the coaches.”
