WTA: More BBC viewers saw Kerber against Williams than Djokovic against Anderson

Angelique Kerber and Serena Williams beat Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson: For the first time in 13 years, more TV viewers from the British channel BBC watched the women’s final at Wimbledon than the men’s final the following day.

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC) has just officially announced that the match between Kerber and Williams (6:3, 6:3) reached 4.6 million viewers on July 14. The “peak” of the game between Djokovic and Anderson (6:2, 6:2, 7:6) almost 24 hours later was 4.5 million people.

The BBC achieved its highest score in the 142nd edition of this year’s most important grass court tournament in the third round between Djokovic and British local hero Kyle Edmund (6.54 million spectators).

The AELTC also reported further interesting figures. In the almost two weeks of the tournament, a total of 190,900 portions of the famous Kent strawberries were consumed with liquid cream on the grounds in southwest London. Plus 111,250 scones and 19,104 portions of fish and chips. In addition, 273,603 Pimm’s glasses were ordered. The pros ate 6,243 plates of pasta and 4,520 portions of sushi.
