ATP: Kyrgios must give up in Atlanta, Harrison wins marathon

Disappointment for Nick Kyrgios’ fans at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Atlanta: The Australian could not finish his quarter-final match against Cameron Norrie from Great Britain.

Nick Kyrgios probably imagined a different start to the US hard court tournaments: At first the Australian lost with buddy Thanasi Kokkinakis in doubles at the ATP World Tour 250 tournament in Atlanta already in round one, now Kyrgios had to say goodbye in singles as well. 5-7 and 0-3 injury forced the Canberra man to give up against Cameron Norrie in the night session.

Kyrgios had to be treated on the court, but finally had to throw in the towel. And this despite the 23-year-old still raving before the tournament that he had finally fully recovered physically. Not uncritical for Kyrgios: After all, he has to defend his best career result in a few weeks, the final entry in Cincinnati.

In the match before, Ryan Harrison ended Hyeon Chung’s comeback efforts in a marathon. The American won 6:7 (3), 6:2 and 7:6 (5) and will play on Saturday (local time) against Norrie for a place in the final of Atlanta. “In the end, our nerves played along a bit, but I’m glad I made it,” said Harrison after his victory.

In the first two matches on Friday, John Isner beat Mischa Zverev and Matthew Ebden against Marcos Baghdatis. This is Isner’s ninth time in a semi-final in Atlanta.
