Alexander and Mischa Zverev may meet in round three at the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Washington.
One victory each – and there would be a German duel between brothers in Washington. Alexander Zverev, defending champion and placed first, would only have to win against either Malek Jaziri or Evgeny Donskoy, Mischa will face either Tim Smyczek from the USA or Ricardas Berankis after a walk-through.
The German number one has not contested a match since his retirement against Ernests Gulbis in Wimbledon, preparing in Florida. Among others with Ivan Lendl. It will already be interesting to observe in Washington whether a long-term cooperation develops from this. Last year, Juan Carlos Ferrero made his debut as Zverev coach in the US capital.
If the seed list is correct, Alexander Zverev will face Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals, against whom he last lost in Monte Carlo. On ashes, though. In the semifinal, David Goffin could wait.
John Isner is the number two permanent player in the traditional ATP World Tour 500 tournament, the American has just engaged his fifth triumph in Atlanta. Two players who were eliminated in the quarter-finals there are also in the tableau: Hyeon Chung and Nick Kyrgios. Behind the Australian, however, there is a small question mark: Kyrgios had to give up his match against Cameron Norrie in Atlanta due to injury.
