Nicolas Jarry was the second player to reach the semi-finals of the Generali Open in Kitzbühel: The Chilean defeated Matteo Berrettini in two tight sets.
Nicolas Jarry proved to be a fair winner after 84 minutes with Matteo Berrettini on the Center Court of the Kitzbühel Tennis Club. In the second set he had already noticed that his opponent was a bit tired, no wonder in the efforts of the last few days: Berrettini had come from Gstaad to Kitzbühel as the winner.
Which is, of course, only half the truth: Jarry also played tennis successfully last week, reaching the semi-finals in Hamburg after a victory over Dominic Thiem. Just like after 7:5 and 6:3 now at the Generali Open.
As usual, Jarry did not hold back in the match between two 22-year-olds and pressed the pace right from the start. This can lead to spectacular points – but also to balls that no longer touch the court before they hit the back wall next to the line judges.
Against Berrettini the man from Santiago found the right measure, admitted four break balls on his own serve – but could all fend them off. The Italian, on the other hand, had to hand in his service three times.
In the semi-final Denis Istomin is now waiting for Nicolas Jarry. The qualifier from Uzbekistan had no problems in the first quarter-final of the day against Maximilian Marterer at 6:3, 6:3.
