ATP: Six months break for Bob Bryan – can Mike still make the Masters?

Mike Bryan must have to live without Brother Bob for at least another six months. This was explained by the double legend on the fringes of the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Washington.

Hip injuries are no joke, especially in tennis, but if you have any doubts, ask Andy Murray, who is making his comeback on hard court in Washington. There’s still no man there: Bob Bryan. And this situation will continue even longer, as twin brother Mike told the press in the US capital.

“Unfortunately, an operation will be necessary,” explained the 40-year-old first in the world rankings. “This week in New York with one of the best hip doctors in the world. Looks like it’s going to take six months of rehab.”

Mike Bryan has to give up his ancestral partner, but still plays successfully on the tour. This week in Washington with Edourd Roger-Vasselin, last in Wimbledon at Jack Sock’s side in Wimbledon he even managed the big coup.

However, Bob Bryan’s forced break has implications for the entire double scene: Bryan/Bryan are in second place in the Doubles Race to London behind the superior top riders Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic, would probably have one of the eight starting places for the ATP final after the end of the season.

With the Wimbledon victory with Sock, Mike Bryan is also the first successor of himself: Bryan/Sock are in ninth place in the race, one place ahead of Jan-Lennard Struff and Ben McLachlan. And this with only two tournament participations.
