Davis Cup: Milos Raonic wants to give the new format a chance

Milos Raonic still has tasks in the Davis Cup ahead of him this year. The Canadian can certainly gain something from the changes approved by the ITF.

If it is true that there are supporters for the new Davis Cup format among the absolute world leaders – we are talking about Rafael Nadal, for example – then they have not yet expressed themselves accordingly. The voices, on the other hand, were loud and clear and could not win a tournament with 18 national teams in the second half of November.

Which no longer challenges Milos Raonic. The Canadian, often injured, expressed confidence about the new start after his retirement in Cincinnati.

“Yes, I think this is a positive thing,” said Raonic, who lost in the quarter-finals to Novak Djokovic. “I think the Davis Cup has had its problems over the last few years. Changes were necessary.” According to the old format, Raonic and the Canadian team will have to keep the Dutch in Toronto in check for the first time in September.

He hopes that the changes will be well received by players,” Raonic added. “Of course, there’ll be some sort of battle between the World Team Cup and this event to get the better event off the ground.” The date would speak for the World Team Cup. “But apart from that, it’s a fresh start. And I hope the players will appreciate that.”
