US Open: Seed Lists published – Everything on schedule, only Serena Williams except

On Tuesday the seed lists for the US Open were announced in Flushing Meadows. They are based on the world rankings of 20 August – with one exception.

“After weighing a variety of factors, including her return after her daughter was born, her performance on hard court in the summer and the recognition of her success at the US Open, the USTA has moved Serena Williams’ seedings up nine places, from 26 to 17,” said press spokesman Chris Widmaier. “We think this is an appropriate decision – one that does Serena justice and is fair to the other seeded players.”

Williams’ bet on number 17, however, means that if she reaches round three, she can already meet a player from the top 16.

The seed lists look as follows:

The main field matches of the US Open will start next Monday. Defending champions are Rafael Nadal in the men’s singles and Sloane Stephens in the women’s singles.
