US Open: Qualification, Day 3: Barthel continues, Lottner retired

Mona Barthel is the first player from the DTB squad to reach the final qualification round. Antonia Lottner, on the other hand, was eliminated.

Barthel won against Silvia Soler-Espinosa from Spain 4:6, 7:6 (6), 6:0 after a big fight and thus plays for a place in the main field. Soler-Espinosa had a match point on his own serve during a 6:5 lead in the tiebreak of the second set.

Barthel will now face Francesca di Lorenzo from the USA, who beat Antonia Lottner 6-4, 7-5. Still in action: Tamara Korpatsch against the US-American Nicole Gibbs.
