US Open: Panel to the men: Dead race between Nadal and Djokovic

On Monday the main field at the US Open will start operating. We looked around to see what the experts had to say about the men’s tournament.

Marcel Meinert (SKY): Rafael Nadal – because he is probably the most dominant of the top players and he is physically there.

Oliver Faßnacht (Eurosport): Nadal – in the final against Djokovic. Both have to play to the limit in the semi-final to defeat Alexander Zverev (Djokovic) and Del Potro (Nadal) – but Nadal has a little more energy for the final, as Djokovic has to play five sets against Kyrgios in the quarter-finals. Nadal and Djokovic are in convincing form, have each won a title in the preparation, and their body was last spared. Federer? Retired in the 3rd round against Kyrgios.

Niki Fink (tennisnet): Rafael Nadal will win his fourth title in Flushing Meadows. Why? After the cancellation for Cincinnati, the Spaniard travelled to New York early and has been meticulously preparing for the tournament since Sunday. In addition, the sand court king was not only convincing on his beloved underground, his performances in Wimbledon and Toronto were also as strong as an ox. Combined with a good draw and a “very special energy”, which Nadal feels every time at the US Open, there will be no way around the world number one.

Markus Theil (Eurosport): Nadal, seems to be in really good physical shape. And the draw fits, too.

Ulrike Weinrich (tennisnet): Novak Djokovic is back. He recently gained the last ounce of self-confidence with his final victory over Roger Federer in “Cincy”. Djokovic relies again on the familiar around him who once made him so strong. Like coach Marian Vajda and fitness expert Gebhard Gritsch. The Wimbledon victory was a first reward for the insight gained and the decisions that followed. The self-discovery phase, when “Nole” accepted almost only the advice of the esoteric guru Pepe Imaz, is over. Djokovic is himself again – the great fighter who plays for Grand Slam victories.

Andrej Antic (tennisMAGAZIN): Djokovic has the momentum and makes the most stable impression on me.

Harald Ottawa (Kurier): Novak Djokovic has become a favourite in recent months. Even for Nadal and Federer he is the favourite. Behind it there are more outsiders than there have been for a long time. Players who were injured for a long time and in weak form recently played very well again.

Uwe Semrau (DAZN): Novak Djokovic is back! Just in time.
