US Open: Andy Murray in second round after four-set fight and finishes dry spell

Former tournament winner Andy Murray won his first Grand Slam match in over a year at the US Open in New York. The Briton, who had undergone hip surgery at the beginning of the season, beat Australian James Duckworth 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 at the start of Flushing Meadows.

Murray turned his first match point after 3:17 hours.

The 31-year-old Murray, who won his first of three major titles in New York in 2012, will face Fernando Verdasco (Spain/No. 31) in the second round.

Murray made his last Wimbledon quarter-final Grand Slam match in 2017, making his comeback in Eastbourne in July after a break of almost a year with a win over Wawrinka.
