US Open: Tatjana Maria plays Radwanska away and is in round two

Tatjana Maria is the first of six German players to enter the second round of the US Open in New York. The 31-year-old from Bad Saulgau, who has lived in Florida for years, won 6-3, 6-3 against the former Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska (Poland).

In round two, Maria will face the seventh seeded Ukrainian Yelena Switolina.

Only on Tuesday Angelique Kerber (No. 4) intervenes in the events. The Wimbledon winner will play Margarita Gasparjan from Russia. Andrea Petkovic and Laura Siegemund are also only in action on the second day of the tournament. Petkovic meets last year’s French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia/No. 10), Siegemund has to deal with Naomi Osaka (Japan/No. 20).
