US Open: Secret favourite Stefanos Tsitsipas fails surprisingly because of Medvedev

Stefanos Tsitsipas surprisingly dropped out in the second round of the US Open. The NextGen-Star lost to his young competitor Daniil Medvedev in four sets 4:6, 3:6, 6:4 and 3:6.

The Greek, who caused a sensation especially in recent months, seemed tired and had to bow to the pointedness of his 22-year-old competitor.

Medvedev won his first ATP title at the Winston Salem tournament last week and travelled to New York City with a great deal of self-confidence. Tsitsipas, on the other hand, were weaker in the second round and were unable to exploit their full potential at any time.

With the retirement of the 20-year-old, the first secret favourite leaves the current competition. The Greek convinced at the tournaments in Cincinnati and Toronto and gained the status as a hunter of the big names in the Big Apple.
