ATP: Murray calls US open favourite: “Djokovic plays great, but…”

After his defeat against Fernando Verdasco, the world number one spoke about the current balance of power among the men. Despite Novak Djokovic’s Wimbledon victory, someone else is the Briton’s big favourite for the title at the US Open.

Djokovic plays Tennys Sandgren in the second round, Richard Gasquet would be the first seeded player nominally in round three. In the quarter-finals there could be a duel with Roger Federer before it would be Alexander Zverev’s turn in the semi-finals.

Although Djokovic prevailed in Wimbledon, Murray was enthusiastic about the Mallorcan’s matches in Wimbledon. “I commented on the quarter-final Nadal – Del Potro, it was an incredible match – one of the best I’ve ever seen.”

“The fifth movement in particular was of outstanding quality. I enjoyed watching Rafa play Juan.” Nadal is already in the third round after a sovereign win in three sets against Vasek Pospisil, where he will face the Russian Karen Khachanov.
