US Open: No against Suarez Navarro – Sharapova loses Night Session for the first time

Maria Sharapova is out of the US Open 2018. The Russian lost to the Spanish Carla Suarez Navarro on her birthday in two sets.

A great backhand cross ball by Carla Suarez Navarro has ended Maria Sharapova’s almost uncanny series. The Russian had won 23 matches during her appearances in Night Sessions at the US Open, none of them lost. The Spaniard, who celebrated her 30th birthday on Monday, defeated Sharapova 6-3 and 6-4 after 91 minutes of play.

Both players had big problems on their own serve, but Suarez Navarro presented in both sets – and played more focused and aggressive on the decisive points than Sharapova.

Last year’s quarter-finalist Madison Keys is now waiting for Suarez Navarro. Keys had no problems with Dominika Cibulkova, who defeated Angelique Kerber in round three.
