US Open: Naomi Oskaka reaches the semi-finals

Naomi Osaka is in the semi-finals of the US Open. The Japanese did not give the Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko a chance in the last eight.

With a 6-1 and 6-1 win, the 20-year-old reaches the first major semi-final of her career. Her opponent Tsurenko had to struggle with the heat despite slightly improved weather conditions compared to the days before.

In the first set Osaka quickly took a 3-0 lead. Afterwards, she won the first round 6:1 thanks to some wonderful winning strokes. Tsurenko returned only eleven percent of Osaka’s first serves.

This key should continue in the second part of the game. Osaka took the quick lead again, this time 4-0 ahead before the 29-year-old Ukrainian won her first game. Nevertheless, Tsurenko, who had already struggled with the conditions against Vondrousova in the round before, was no longer capable of making a comeback from the middle of the second set.

At 4-1, Tsurenko took three more break points, but Osaka could all fend them off. In the subsequent service game, the Japanese player broke through her opponent’s serve again and made it to the semi-finals after less than an hour. It’s either Carla Suarez Navarro or Madison Keys.
